Learn more- AEP: Annual enrollment period; October 15th through December 7th. Starting October 15th through December 7th, Medicare beneficiaries can review and change their healthcare coverage for the following year.
- OEP: Only pertains to those who are actively enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan, allowing changes to take place. All changes will take effect on the first day of the following month after your current plan has processed your requested change. The time frame for Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period is January 1st to March 31st.
- SEP: Medicare Special Enrollment Period is a window of time in which you can sign up for or switch Medicare Supplement, Advantage and Part D plans outside of the normal open enrollment period. (Circumstantial changes, aging in, loss of benefits, etc.)
Enrollment Periods
- OEP: Open Enrollment Period; November 1st through December 15th. For ACA coverage to begin on January 1st, enrollment must be before December 15th.
- SEP: Special Enrollment Period; The time outside the yearly open enrollment period when you can sign up for health insurance. Those with certain life events can qualify for this enrollment period. (loss in income, marriage, birth/adoption, moving).
